The Opportunity

Council currently has an opportunity for an Aboriginal Cadet Environmental Health Officer.

In this six-year cadetship you will:

  • Study a Bachelor degree in Environmental Health at Western Sydney University (by distance part-time)
  • Have paid study leave
  • Have university fees paid for all subjects you pass
  • Have structured on-the-job training and mentoring

You will work in the office and out in the community:

  • Inspecting swimming pools, food premises and other businesses
  • Responding to enquiries and investigating complaints
  • Educating to protect health and the environment
  • Checking for regulatory compliance

About you:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by descent and identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Able to meet the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) at Western Sydney University.
  • Current Driver's licence
  • Committed to completing your degree part-time while working full-time
  • Some knowledge and awareness of environmental health issues
  • Well-developed communication and writing skills
  • Enthusiastic and able to take direction

  • Weekly Salary: $852.22 (T4) plus superannuation
  • Hours of work: Temporary Full-time, 35 hours per week
