The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of Council’s Leadership Team and has responsibility for planning, implementing and leading all financial activities of Council.
The role leads all aspects of Council’s financial services, including long‑term financial planning, budgeting, investment strategy, asset financial oversight, statutory reporting, procurement and audit. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CFO works closely with the CEO, Directors and Councilors to ensure financial considerations are embedded in strategic and operational decision‑making.
Key accountabilities include:
- Leading and developing a professional, high‑performing team across the four key functions: Procurement & Contracts, Revenue, Financial Services, and the Management Accounting team.
- Providing strategic financial leadership aligned to Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting framework
- Ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and accounting requirements
- Overseeing Council’s financial performance, investment portfolio, loans and reserves
- Delivering high‑quality financial advice, analysis and reporting to support sound governance
- Maintaining and strengthening financial controls, transparency and ethical stewardship of public resources

About You
You are a Senior Finance Leader with extensive experience operating at an executive level in complex organisations, ideally within the public sector or a highly regulated environment.
You bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and current or eligible membership of a recognised professional accounting body
- Proven experience leading long‑term financial planning, budgeting, asset and investment management
- A strong track record advising executives and governing bodies on financial strategy, risk and sustainability
- Well‑developed people leadership skills and the ability to foster capability and performance
- Professional judgement, integrity and the confidence to provide clear, independent financial advice
